As writers from all over the world have contributed to the Skywind project, it is necessary for us to establish uniform spelling, grammar, and style in a manner that closely emulates a Bethesda-published Elder Scrolls game.
This style guide has therefore been written for the purpose of maintaining consistency throughout the Skywind experience. It is based on the style guide used on UESPWiki, albeit with a number of key differences. The latter guide should therefore not be used for reference.
This guide will summarize the style guidelines that are recommended for all user-facing text, regardless of location or importance, with the objective of being a helpful resource for writers and proofreaders alike. In order to provide the best possible guidance, it has been written using the same guidelines it exemplifies (with a few minor exceptions for ease of use).
Please note that this is not intended to be an exhaustive work, such as the Chicago Manual of Style -- nor would we impose prescriptions for every grammatical query had we the time to do so. The aim of all users of this guide should not be perfection, but consistency and coherency: a unified whole rather than a variety of idiosyncratic styles.
Furthermore, while the rules given in this style guide should generally apply to all text, it is important not to be overzealous in correcting spelling or grammar errors made by a character: an ignorant NPC talking about "Khajiits" reflects his unfamiliarity with the proper pluralization rules of that word; not a failure on the part of the writer.
If you have a query that this guide does not address, please feel free to ask a writing team lead on the #writing-main channel on Discord.
